A DNA Avuncular Test is a genetic test used to determine whether a child is biologically related to a specific aunt or uncle (the sibling of an alleged parent). This type of test is especially helpful when the alleged father or mother is unavailable for testing, but a close relative (like a brother or sister of that parent) is willing to participate.

How It Works

  1. Sample Collection
A painless cheek swab (buccal swab) is collected from the child and the potential aunt or uncle. Including the mother of the child can improve accuracy, but is optional.

  2. DNA Analysis
The laboratory compares the DNA profiles of the tested individuals to determine the likelihood of a biological relationship. It looks for shared genetic markers that would typically be present between a niece/nephew and their biological aunt or uncle.

  3. Result Delivery
You’ll receive a report with a probability percentage indicating whether the tested individuals are likely to be biologically related.

Types of Avuncular Tests

  • Informational Test (Peace of Mind – for personal use only)

  • Legal Test (Chain-of-Custody for court, immigration, or social security)

  • With Mother Included (recommended for greater accuracy)
